SLG Secures Summary Judgment For Board of Education In Sexual Abuse Case

Jersey City, NJ – January 17, 2025 – Shah Law Group is pleased to announce a significant legal victory on behalf of its client, the Jersey City Board of Education. The Hudson County Superior Court has granted summary judgment in favor of the Board, dismissing all claims by the plaintiff Jane Doe that a janitor abused her in the early 1990s.

The case arose from allegations related to events at Henry Snyder High School in the early 1990s. The plaintiff, Jane JLW Roe, brought claims against the Board, including negligence, negligent hiring, supervision, and retention, as well as negligent infliction of emotional distress. At the conclusion of discovery, the court found that plaintiff failed to meet the burden of proof required under the New Jersey Tort Claims Act, including the threshold for medical expenses and permanency of injuries. Additionally, the Court ruled that the plaintiff’s expert testimony regarding her psychological injuries constituted a net opinion.

“We’re pleased with the court’s ruling, which thoroughly analyzed the facts and law and vindicated the Board,” said Roshan D. Shah, SLG’s Managing Partner.

The matter is captioned Jane JLW Roe v. Jersey City Board of Education, Docket No. HUD-L-4556-21. Roshan D. Shah and Dennis Schmieder represented the Board.
