SLG Secures Directed Verdict in Favor of State of New Jersey in Employment Discrimination Trial
Shrewsbury, NJ — May 6, 2026 — Shah Law Group, LLC announced today that it successfully obtained a directed verdict in favor of its client, the State of New Jersey, Office of the Attorney General, Division of Criminal Justice (“DCJ”), in the matter of Cross v. State of New Jersey, an employment discrimination case filed in Camden County Superior Court
Plaintiff Sgt. LaMonica Cross claimed DCJ passed her over for four different promotions based on her race, gender and/or retaliation for past complaints. Cross asserted claims under the Law Against Discrimination and sought compensatory and punitive damages.
After four weeks of testimony, the admission of over 100 exhibits, and two hours of oral argument, the trial court granted SLG’s motion for judgment as a matter of law. The court found that no rational juror could conclude that DCJ discriminated against Cross on the basis of her race or gender, or retaliated against her for prior complaints.
DCJ was represented by SLG’s founder, Roshan D. Shah, and Associate Jamayrah Moore.
